Karen Sloan | Bird Traecy

What are your hopes and dreams for the spiritual lives of your children? Where does your family find connection and spiritual nurture? What resources do you need to help you nurture your children’s spiritual lives? Join other parents and caregivers wrestling with how to support their children’s spiritual well-being outside the typical religious transactional model. Explore how to move away from helping your children “know God” to embracing a posture of connection, wonder and play during your family’s spiritual journey. The entire family can join us for this session which will include a mixture of time for parents to share their experiences while children are enjoying time with childcare staff, and a family Godly Play experience together.

This is part of a larger grant funded project for Godly Play to learn more about the needs of parents and caregivers and how we can best support them, so families who complete the experience along with a pre and post survey will receive a $75 stipend for their time! Please note adult only times will be recorded for research purposes, but all identifying information will be kept confidential.

Karen Sloan

Karen Sloan is devoted to the nurture of children and all those who care for them. 20+ years ago she stumbled upon Godly Play as the spiritual practice for multisensory, age and ability inclusive cultivation of wonder and connective exploration, journeys of faith. She leads several circles of Godly Play gatherings, including boys and girls involved in scouting, along with mentoring newer leaders in their Godly Play circles. Other companion pursuits in her work include: nonviolent communication, labyrinth, fixed hour prayer and intentional Christian community. As part of an ecumenical team in her area, Pittsburgh, PA, she is so excited for the debut later this summer of Family Monastery Days – ora et labora household day camp. Karen is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Together with her husband, she is raising two young children in a household with varying amounts of this spiritual formation stew.
