Katie Hays
Rev. Dr. Katie Hays is the Lead Evangelist for Galileo Church, a three-year-old Christian community that seeks and shelters spiritual refugees. “Spiritual refugees” are those for whom church has become boring, irrelevant, exclusive, and even painful – especially Millennials, and especially LGBTQ+ people. Galileo Church has four missional priorities. We do justice for LGBTQ+ people. We do kindness for people with mental illness or in emotional distress, and we welcome non-neurotypical people. We do beauty for our God-Who-Is-Beautiful. We do real relationship, no bullshit, ever. The “Maybe All Is Not Lost” liturgy is our best expression to date of priority #3: the co-creation of beauty for our Beautiful God. Together with worship architect Paul Demer, we crowdfunded its production in 2015. Galileo Church invites Wild Geese to our campsite for refreshment and conversation. Y’all come.
Maybe All Is Not Lost
Galileo Church and evangelist Katie Hays lead an interactive liturgy crafted around the original music of singer-songwriter Paul Demer on our co-produced album Maybe All Is Not Lost. Layers of song, scripture, body prayer, query, and the sharing of bread and cup invite worshipers to bring their whole selves (heart and soul, mind and body) to the heart of God. We practice radically open communion as a celebration of God’s expansive welcome for all people. The “Maybe” in our title is important. We are exploring how to stand for hope in God’s promises during a hard season, without retreating to the clenched fist of certainty. We intend for this session of worship to be meaningful for worshipers now, and useful for the life of your faith community later. Come seek the language and liturgy of hope with us.
