D. J. Hudson
D. J. Hudson is a graduate of Fisk University and Vanderbilt Divinity School. While at Fisk, she studied the strategies of the Nashville students who conducted sit-ins and eventually went on to the Freedom Rides and the creation of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Since then, D. J. has committed herself to understanding, teaching, and learning strategic nonviolent resistance in context of 21st century social movements. D. J. continues to pursue her study and practice of nonviolence through her lens of womanist ethics and Southern/queer traditions. She currently serves as the Nonviolence and Direct Action Consultant for Soulforce, a national LGBTQ direct action group.

Disrupting the Space-Time Continuum: Visioning New Futures and Alternatives for Social Change
This workshop takes seriously the need to envision new futures as an important part of activism and social change. Using the art of fantasy storytelling, this workshop is designed to push the boundaries of social justice imagination by centering, celebrating, and being resourceful with what we already have. When we understand ourselves as resource-full we are better able to do the work of shaping the realities that we desire with grace, patience, and curiosity. When we start accepting the fact that our visioning, our desires, and our reality are different and that all of these things conflict with each other, we can learn to find the messiness thereof to be instructive, informative, a source of inspiration and a guideline.
