Re-Tune-ing Religion

July 12, 201910:00 am10:50 am
The power of music is undeniable. What we sing sinks more deeply into our being than words we merely read or hear from a speaker and this is as true in faith communities as it is in popular culture. Despite the emergence of contemporary theologies, most people in the pews continue to believe and express only classical theology, in part because that is what they have been singing for years. Eco-feminist and process theologies have been flourishing for decades, yet most people in the pews seem to be relatively unaware of the way such ideas as the goodness of embodiment, the inherent value of all beings, and the radical incarnation of God in creation have shaped current theology since the early 20th century. In this session we’ll learn and sing four new hymns composed by the presenter: We All Are Related; Spirit of God, Spirit of Life; Love is Perfect Power; and I Am Human.
