What do old time mountain music, rocking chairs, supper and square dancing have in common? If you said they're all part of an awesome night, you're right. But did you ever think they could be part of church? Wild Goose Christian Community is a nontraditional worshipping community in Floyd County, VA. Pews have been replaced with rockers, organs with banjos, and goblets with Mason jars. Additionally, Wild Goose has moved away from traditional preacher-based worship; discussions occur instead of sermons. Our purpose is simple: to reach out to those that might never darken the door of a traditional church, and to talk about spirituality maybe in a way you've never heard it before. Rev. Grace Kim is the Pastor of the Wild Goose Christian Community in Floyd County VA. She came to serve the Wild Goose in 2019, following the founding Pastor Rev Edwin Lacey. Grace is originally from South Korea and holds an MDiv from Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond VA. Mac Traynham, a world-renowned banjo player, fiddler & banjo maker, helped to launch the Wild Goose Christian Community in 2013. He performs internationally and carries on the traditional style of fiddling, banjo picking and singing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of SW Virginia. Jim McGee is a Chaplain, folklorist & musician, who supports the work and mission of the WGCC and through Zoom provides reflections on Appalachian culture along with music for Wild Goose worship services. He works as a Pastoral Therapist in Louisville KY. Malcolm Smith is a former professor of education, a musician, and author. His latest book, Appalachian Fiddler Albert Hash, The Last Leaf on the Tree was released last year by McFarland Press. Malcolm has been a member of The Wild Goose Christian Community for five years.
