After escaping life as an evangelical megachurch programming pastor in Chicago and managing editor for a Christian publisher in Pittsburgh, Tom Cox and his wife, Jean, moved to the mountain cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica, in 2020, where they participate in a Quaker community on the front lines of climate change. They are active with several ecological initiatives, including the Monteverde Community Fund (mitigating the environmental impact of a quarter-million yearly tourists on our community), the Monteverde Institute, and Los Venas del Bosque (The Veins of the Forest), a river maintenance group. He also continues to serve as an elder at The Commonwealth of Oakland in Pittsburgh. Tom is creating Esfera Faith, a website that encourages and empowers faith communities and individuals to enter into climate work with both urgency and optimism.
