Susan Vickery-Mercer served as Director of Youth Ministries for 12 years at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Greenville, NC. Other work experience in her 64 years of living includes: 1) working with NC Council of Churches, helping farmers across the state create local farmers' markets; 2) teaching at East Carolina University in exercise physiology; 3) working as a massage therapist; 4) serving as Community Organizer with the Land Institute in Matfield Green, Kansas; and 5) doing legal secretary work in a small-town law office. When she worked with Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia, for a six-month internship in 1990, she loved to go to Plains, Georgia, each Sunday morning to hear Jimmy Carter teach Sunday School, who encouraged attendees to serve God by helping the least of these. In her spare time, Susan likes to attend small-town festivals, hike in the mountains, garden, and watch movies with her husband, Calvin Mercer.
