Spencer LaJoye is a folk singer/songwriter, violinist, and vocal loop artist in Boston, MA, who believes everyone is made of the good stuff. Their Presbatholic (Presbyterian and Catholic) upbringing in rural Southwest Michigan was accompanied by classical music, jazz, and musical theater. Naturally, they became a queer agnostic folk songwriter with a Master of Divinity. A 2021 Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition winner, LaJoye (luh-JOY) has a theological obsession with making music that tells the truth, and a profoundly queer habit of creating ritual space for hurt and healing people. Delivering Broadway-esque melodies accompanied by a weathered dreadnought, Spencer's performances are equal parts confident quirk and elegant storytelling. They tend to bring people to church at their shows, vowing to leave audiences more whole than they found them.
