The Rev. Barry Stopfel is an Episcopal Priest. He is a former marketing executive, studied at Union Theological Seminary in NYC and was ordained in 1991 by the late Bishop John Shelby Spong. As an out gay partnered candidate and with a close association with the progressive Bishop Spong his ordination became a pivot point in the Episcopal Church's debate not only over the inclusion of LGBTQ+ candidates for ordination but also the debate over the full inclusion of LGBGTQ+ persons in the life of the church. His career as an outspoken advocate on behalf of men who have sex with men during the early years of the HIV/AIDS plague in NYC, and as a clergy person, educator and public speaker in church and society has been focused on radical inclusion. Until recently he served as a member of the board of the Stonewall Delaware Political Action Committee. Rev. Stopfel is Priest Emeritus at Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church in Pawleys Island South Carolina.
