Martha Kearse

Born and raised in Virginia, The Rev. Dr. Martha Kearse most of her adult life in Charlotte, NC, first as a high school English teacher, then as a mom to her three children, then as a minister. Since 2018, Martha has been pastor at Peakland Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, where she lives with her dog, Merlin, having released her children into the wild. Her first book, The Sun Is Up, addresses biblical hospitality as an approach to healing the harms done by prejudice and fear, offering a call to white Christians to acknowledge the ways we have failed at hospitality toward our neighbors and a way forward from here. She is currently working on three more books, which fluctuate in importance on any given. She loves living in the mountains around the Hill City and is currently on the board for Interfaith Outreach Association in Lynchburg and the Sophia Seminary and Farm in Dinwiddie.
