Calvin Mercer

Calvin Mercer is Religion Professor at East Carolina University and co-editor, with UK scholar Steve Fuller, of the series Palgrave Studies in the Future of Humanity and Its Successors. Calvin and Canadian scholar Tracy Trothen published Religion and the Technological Future: Artificial Intelligence, Biohacking, and Transhumanism (Palgrave Macmillan), which recently won an International Society for Science and Religion book award. Climate activist Bill McKibben praised the book, saying It is vital that we begin to analyze these difficult questions before, not after, they become reality. Calvin frequently gives public lectures on religion and radical human enhancement technology. Having served in elected public office, he is also coauthor of an award-winning children's book, There Ought to Be a Law: A Bright Day at the Capitol.
