Steven Harris/The Black Church Tradition as Prophetic Paradigm

Sat 2:00pm - 2:50pm

Venue: Library

Co-Creators

Type of Experience: Speaking

The variegated, organic entity often referenced via the sociological shorthand, “The Black Church,” was itself birthed in protest. What might such a tradition teach us today? Drawing on C. Eric Lincoln and Lawrence H. Mamiya’s dialectical model of the Black Church, this session will explore the various tensions that often characterize black Christian experience — the models that shape it, the beliefs and burdens that inform it, and the praxis that has come to define it.
