The Light Force: the power of social and spiritual connection on mental health Light for the Darkness is both a mental health ministry and a 1001 New Worshiping Community of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We facilitate spiritual-emotional support groups that include a mix of liturgy, meditation, conversation around a scripture, being heard and valued, and connecting with others. Depression and anxiety pre-pandemic affected one in five adults and nearly one in four under twenty-five. With the pandemic that number has increased significantly. And, only a little more than half of those who need it seek treatment. Some are still culturally stigmatized from seeking help from mental healthcare professionals and are more willing to seek help from a church or group like Light for the Darkness. And, because some with mental health variances have been wounded by the church and Christians, who have responded to their needs in judgmental, uninformed, or unhelpful ways, these folks need a place to heal spiritually and emotionally. We provide a safe place to explore where God is in the midst of mental health variances and connect with others who understand. Come not only hear about but also experience how the healing Light of Christ is working through Light for the Darkness.
