Type of Experience: Meditation

The metta prayer of loving kindness or benevolence is a prayer or mantra or repetitive practice used to cultivate compassion toward all sentient beings. This kind of meditation and use of a mantra is popular in the Buddhist tradition, and is neutral enough to be practiced with the intention by any group. The word, metta, comes from Pali and can be translated as “good will” or “loving kindness.”
