Lisa Gezon / Altered States: Imagining Consciousness, Creativity, and Christ

Sat 1:00pm - 1:50pm

Venue: Front Porch

Co-Creators

Type of Experience: Experiential

Content Type: Explore altered states of consciousness

The session is designed to provoke exploration into ways that altered states of consciousness (ASC) enhance imagination, creativity and experience of the divine. This interactive and experiential session will begin with a brief history of ASC, both with and without drugs, through time and across species. It will include an overview of some contemporary cross-cultural practices, including rhythm, song, movement, breathing, meditation, and psychedelics. Participants will have an opportunity to join a brief session of mediation with music. We will process that experience together, asking questions including: How do ASC enhance religious practices, spiritual (not necessarily religious) experiences, creative endeavors, awareness of self? How do they help us imagine and then enact transformation? How have you experienced altered states? Have these experiences affected your beliefs? Your experiences of the spiritual? Your experience of yourself and relationships? Finally, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities for integrating ASC into everyday lives.
