Type of Experience: Other
Content Type: Meet Spirit walking in nature
Imagine reading trees, streams, clouds, and stones as God’s first book. Imagine hearing birdcalls and susurration, cicadas’ songs and other sounds, as God’s still-speaking word. Imagine spiritual community celebrating the universal Christ not needing a building, tithes, or creeds. Imagine…forest church. There’s a lot of sitting at the Goose…this will give participants a chance to engage in a short walk, engaging their senses to discern the Divine presence in the natural world. It’s not so much talking about God in the wilds, it’s about sensing Spirit in Creation. Forest church is an organic, loosely-connected international network based on perennial wisdom, Hebrew and Christian Scriptures, and environmental concerns. In a time of disenchantment with the abuses of organized religion, forest church offers a safe way for spiritual seekers to gather and grow. In a time of political division, forest church offers ground free of partisan strife, where devotees of earth-based spirituality and Christ-followers find mutual wisdom. Kenneth McIntosh wrote the forward to the original Forest Church book, has led forest church experiences around the US and in northern England, and has founded forest churches in Arizona and Upstate New York. He is also the author of Celtic Nature Prayers.
