Mosaic New Faith Community is an experiment in deconstructing and reconstructing an inclusive and affirming faith community. Starting with a conversation on the social media app TikTok, we began looking at what church really means. With my personal social media accounts that have over 100K followers around the world, through live chats and zoom meetings that averaged 300-2500 people, and posts that have millions of views, the NCUMC Conference decided this was a chance to radically change the way we do church. With both local (WIlmington, NC) members and members online worldwide, Mosaic Faith Community is using social media platforms to walk through a nine month process of building a church block by block. From March until December, this group is looking at every aspect of the church, from bathrooms and artwork to the way we view discipleship and giving. Led by Pastor Kelley, the “TikTok Bible Nerd”, MFC is listening and building with people from the LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Neurodiverse, and Disability Communities. As our online members join us, they are forming Reconciling Groups across the US which will be ground for future church plants. We want to bring our work to Wild Goose. Members from our local community and followers online will be at WGF to share a glimpse into the radical way we are building a church. Starting with a quick look at how social media created this space followed by a panel of our members leading a Q&A you can see how the process is going and what we are learning about inclusion in faith spaces.
