Type of Experience: Presentation

Content Type: Psalm songs and discussion

Music often accompanies movements of all types providing inspiration, guidance, consolation, and reinforcing foundational principles. In these times marked by war, climate change, acrid domestic politics, and racial tensions, could the poems and prayers of the ancient Hebrews have any relevance at all? Absolutely they do, according to FolkPsalm band members Charles Pettee (guitar and voice) and Terry Allebaugh (harmonicas)! The frank and unblinking laments, the prophetic utterances, and the stunning poetic visions of hope passed down through the centuries that we find in the Psalms offer a compelling “playlist” indeed for our time. In fact, these were the songs of resilience and hope that a young Jewish man named Yeshua would have heard in-utero, and on his mother’s lap, growing up in Palestine two thousand years ago. They can be an important and helpful addition to our playlist/prayer lists as well!
