Mac Traynham of Floyd County is a multi- instrumentalist who was drawn to the traditional music of the Blue Ridge in the 1970’s. It has been his mission to keep old songs and old-time playing styles of the old-timers of the region alive in the modern era. It has also been his mission to pass the old-time mountain music on to others, especially to the youth of Floyd County. He has worked with youth in both the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) programand with adults and youth through Handmade Music School associated with the Floyd Country Store since 2012. Since 2013, Mac has been a major part of providing music for alternate ‘church’ services around The Wild Goose Christian community of Indian Valley, Virginia. Through the weekly small gathering of those seeking alternate ways of worship, Appalachian Values of community spirit and inclusiveness, potluck meals, music, and spirituality live on.
