Charles Pettee & FolkPsalm offers a lively program of acoustic music, discussion, jamming, harmony vocals, and participatory singing based on Pettee’s original acoustic musical settings from the Book of Psalms. The band’s selections speak to issues such as the oppression of the poor, the despoiling of the Earth, and the dangers of unrestrained pursuit of wealth – issues thoroughly addressed over 3,000 years ago in this expansive collection of poems from our Hebrew spiritual ancestors. The group, a collective of distinguished NC-based acoustic musicians, has recorded four full length albums since forming in 2002, and is renowned for helping us hear these prayer/poems anew with urgency and wonder through their lively and memorable Americana/folk/bluegrass settings of these texts.
