As a retiree who holds Master's Degrees/Certification in the fields of Spanish, Secondary Education, Counselor Education, School Psychology, and Learning Disabilities, Judy struggled with how to find a rewarding work life after age 65. Having worked for over 40 years in public and private schools in Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and in Peru, S.A., mainly as a Spanish teacher and School Counselor, she found the idea of relaxing in retirement to be very dull and unsatisfying. She turned to volunteer work in her search for a sense of purpose and a way of giving back to the community. This search led her to a variety of experiences, starting with being a Puppy Raiser for The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind to her current work as a tutor of English as a Foreign Language (ESL), working with immigrants and refugees, some of whom are just starting to learn English and others who are preparing for their Citizenship Exam. Her goal is to share her experiences with people nearing retirement to inspire others in their later years as they seek self-fulfillment to be found in serving others.
