Poetics of Ecstasy: How the Spoken and Written Word becomes a Mediation of Mat(t)er - Simona Chitescu Weik
Sat 1:00pm - 1:50pm
Poetry has long been relegated to the halls of the Academy as an art medium that can (and has!) alienated non-academics through its layering of meaning being (allegedly) difficult to penetrate and enjoy. However, even a quick incursion into a poem can elicit a profound pleasure/pain response, an experience of meaning-making that rivers through all our intelligence centers (mind, heart, body) and awakens our capacity for ecstasy. During our time together, we will discover entrance points into our ecstatic nature (i would argue intrinsic to being human) and cultivating it through the practice of poetic play. There will be an opportunity to collect language, write lines or an entire poem, and read/discuss beautiful snippets of text in small peer groups, noticing how word choice, syntax, rhythm, and imagery have the power to rewire our brain and bring us into awareness of our erotic potential, alive in us every single moment & waiting to be given permission.
