Opening with Jesus' parable about the corrupt steward [Luke 16:1-9], this presentation will ask about how 1st Century CE Roman Palestine compares with 21st Century America for those issues when a society is perceived as broken. Then, consider Jesus' instructions to those first 72 apostles with the example of his visit with Mary and Martha [Luke 10:38-42], as to the significance of being a good guest. Finally, how Paul's mission progressed to Europe thanks to the hospitality of Lydia [Acts 16:11-15], and what this can teach us about venturing into a hostile world with a progressive Christian narrative.
