How Might We Respond to Ideas of Substitutionary Atonement?

Sat 12:00pm - 12:50pm

Venue: Convo 10

I discuss the spiritual and moral problems that arise from the Christian idea of substitutionary atonement (Jesus died for your sins). I will briefly trace how the idea evolved, but this part will be kept short, to avoid the dreaded Lecture Style. I am a critic of this doctrine, and I want to empower others to have critical ways of RESPONDING to it. I guess that most Wild Goose attenders are not under the spell of this doctrine, but they may not know how to talk about it, or respond when they are told they need to be washed in the blood. I am offering some ways to respond and to call that idea into question. The last part part of the session will involve questions and discussion.
