Kirsten Shead

Kirsten Shead is the Co-Executive Director of Milwaukee Water Commons, an environmental justice nonprofit in the City of Milwaukee focused on stewardship, access, and decision-making around our shared waters. She has an unwavering commitment to social justice, environmental protection, multi-racial leadership, and the Milwaukee community at large. Kirsten left the corporate world in 2009. Her passion work in Muslim-Christian dialogue lead her to the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee where she directed the Interfaith Earth Network, helping faith communities care for Earth based on their sacred teachings. Kirsten has worked with Milwaukee Water Commons in varying capacities since 2014 stepping into the role of Co-Executive Director in 2018. She was appointed to the Wisconsin Governor's Task Force on Climate Change in 2019, which was charged with developing policy recommendations to meaningfully mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change for the benefit of Wisconsin communities. Her work extends to state, regional, and national cohorts and coalitions while prioritizing local, community engagement and systemic change. Kirsten strives for a simple life, valuing relationships, nature, spirituality, community, justice, anti-racism, and environmental stewardship. People + Planet. She cherishes her annual pilgrimage from Wisconsin to the Goose and the sacred banks of the French Broad River.
