Rev. Molly Baskette and Ellen O’Donnell, PhD

Ellen is a child psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children and Shriners Hospital for Children-Boston and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Molly is the Senior Minister of First Congregational Church of Berkeley, CA and the author/co-author of several series of books, including grief workbooks for children and practical how-tos for church renewal that are also a lively and compelling spiritual read.

Together, Molly and Ellen wrote the 2019 book Bless This Mess: A Modern Guide to Faith and Parenting in a Chaotic World (Convergent). Less a parenting guide and more a guide for parents, Bless This Mess marries faith and science to help us become the parents our kids need us to be even or especially in the face of challenge and uncertainty.

Molly and Ellen love talking with parents at all ages and stages of their progressive faith and parenting journeys about what it means to be a “good enough parent” able to admit their own vulnerabilities and fears. Ellen and Molly believe that by allowing our kids to become who they are meant to be parents can become more fully themselves too. Good friends for 16 years and with four kids ranging in age from 10 to 18 they have plenty of experience practicing (and failing at) what they preach.
