Matthew Fox
Matthew Fox is the co-founder of The (r)evolutionary Creation Spirituality movement – based in ancient Judeo-Christian tradition, supported by leading-edge science, bearing witness for social, environmental, and gender justice, and voiced most powerfully for this generation by spiritual theologian Matthew Fox – is flourishing in the creative and prophetic spirit of our times! Matthew was a Dominican for 40 years, was sent to Paris by Thomas Merton to study spiritual theology, and there he met his mentor Chenu who was a grandfather of liberation theology. Additionally, he is responsible for bringing many Christian mystics like Meister Eckhart and Hildegard of Bingen into the consciousness of contemporary Christians. Thomas Berry said of him, “Matthew Fox might well be the most creative, the most comprehensive, surely the most challenging theologian in America .” He has authored many books including Occupy Spirituality: A Radical Vision for a New Generation with Adam Bucko, Meister Eckhart: A Mystic Warrior for Our Times, Hildegard of Bingen: A Saint for Our Times.

The Cosmic Christ and the Struggle for Eco-Justice
The archetype of the Cosmic Christ is about the “light in all beings” (Jn 1), glory or radiance found in all beings, the image of God in all beings. It represents what the mystic-scientist-priest Teilhard de Chardin called “the third nature of Christ” (besides Jesus and the Christ of the Nicene Creed). But as he indicated, it is hard to get anyone to talk about the Cosmic Christ. Today, with a new cosmology from science opening up truths about creation almost daily, it is easier and more important than ever to explore the Cosmic Christ (“who holds all things together in the heavens and on the earth” [Col 1.20]). This archetype becomes the basis of a deep spirituality, one that feeds the mystic and justice-warrior in us all. Nor is it “New Age.” Rather, it represents the earliest teachings from the Christian Bible–and also teachings found in ancient Judaism and other religions as we shall see. Since “ecology is functional cosmology” (Thomas Berry), it follows that an awakened Cosmic Christ is a basis of an ecological Christ-vision and action and also of interfaith, deep ecumenism and peace among world religions. It is the source of finding the sacred in every being.
